Beyond the Energy Code

Compliance Officials . Codes . Local Laws . Opportunities for Efficiency and Collaboration

Beyond the Energy Code: Green Building Worldwide next level of courses will take a comprehensive look at the amendments specific to Building Envelopes and Related Local Laws. We will also share the changes and compliance options. This code shall regulate the design and construction of buildings for the use and conservation of energy over the life of each building.  This code is intended to provide flexibility to permit the use of innovative approaches and techniques to achieve this objective.  As far as may be practicable, the improvement of energy conservation construction practices, methods, equipment, materials, and techniques shall be encouraged.

These dynamic and interactive leadership courses are scheduled beginning June 7 through June 28, 2017.  Seating is limited and registration is required. Locations conveniently accessible, City Hall, Grand Central and Wall Street.

New York City has just passed an unprecedented amendment to its energy conservation code and related local laws directly impacting NYCs over 1 million buildings.

Who Attends: Market Leaders

Green Building Worldwide, GBW, Leadership Training Courses are designed for firms and individuals looking to acquire substantial expertise,  avoid unnecessary cost overruns and project delays due to non compliance.

The amendments to the Code impact new construction filed after October 3rd, 2016 and capital improvements which require modification or approval.

Why firms are signing up: Substantial Knowledge

Compliance is no longer optional for the NYCs one million building, newly constructed and substantially renovated buildings must meet energy code requirements. GBW Leadership Training Courses enable you to readily assess what is required and next steps. The sessions also review foreseeable challenges and strategies for addressing them.

The Benefits: Why Firms Are Signing On

  • To remain competitive and knowledgeable by joining colleagues in becoming up to speed on NYC compliance requirements

  • All Anchor Classes are taught by industry experts

  • Prescriptive and Performance Measures

  • Best practices are shared to maximize the efforts, knowledge gained benefit firms and their customers exponentially

  • Increased ROI

  • Online Resources Included

  • Applicable incentives are shared within each module, and more

Compliance with the amended New York City Energy Conservation Code is a critical component in the citywide effort to reduce energy consumption in its one million plus building stock.

What Participants have to say:

"I like the combination of the technical and law."

PERFORMANCE BASED APPLICATIONS, PART ONE and TWO

Oct 12, 2017

Beyond the Energy Code: New York focus on Performance Based Applications, Part One

October 2017:  Beyond the Code Anchor Classes - New York focus on Performance Based Applications, Part One

The City and State of New York have moved toward performance based approaches through passing aggressive efficiency code requirements. Now, they endeavor to take it one step forward by enabling project teams to harness project specific opportunities for efficiency measures based on the scope of the project.  This is key for NYC in particular as the majority of projects are retrofits, or there are challenges due to density and code requirements.

Importantly, while performance based may incorporate facets of LEED and or Passive House, it is taking it to next level. With a fast growing population, by 2030 we will need 50 percent move energy. It is undeniable that moving toward performance base will be the only way for New York to meet GHG reduction goals and cement its role as leader.

Thursday, October 12th:  NYC and NYS move toward Performance Based Approach. - Grand Central Location - 9am to 11:00am

Discussion points include:

Pillars of Performance Base Application, where your team should maximize their efforts

How to utilize LEED and Passive House into Performance Base Approaches

Key Provisions within NYS and NYC Energy Conservation Code

CEU available, workbook and  included

Beyond the Energy Code: Leadership Training Class, Insulation, Lighting, Windows and Daylighting

Daylighting, the use of windows or skylights for natural lighting and temperature regulation, is one building strategy that can save money for businesses and homeowners alike. Todays highly energy efficient windows, as well as advances in lighting design, reduce the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours without causing heating or cooling problems.

The class will look a the best way to incorporate daylighting depending on climate and design. The sizes and locations of windows will also be discussed.

The training is specific to amendments to the NYC Building Envelope, correlating codes and related Local Laws.  Seating is limited and registration is required.  Three conveniently accessible locations can be found at City Hall, Grand Central and Wall Street.

Beyond the Energy Code: Master Class, Air Barrier & Building Envelope, Special Presentation by VIew Inc.

Game Changing Initiatives:  Join Green Building Worldwide for two dynamic and truly interactive Master Classes being held on Wednesday, May 24 and June 7, 2017.  The Master Classes will discuss the new section added to the New York City Energy Conservation Code  - AIR BARRIER AND THE BUILDING ENVELOPE.

3 Minute Virtual Reality Tour . the new Air Barrier and Building Envelope requirements within the NYC Energy Code. related building codes .  Appeal of Glass in Architecture, Dynamic Glazing options .

These Master Classes are designed to bring stakeholders from different sectors together to have a solid discourse on building design, energy, infrastructure, and public private partnerships.

These industry discussions inform architects, engineers, contractors, consultants and related professionals on the new energy codes, outline best practices to achieve energy-efficient buildings and compliance. See but a few of the corporations who have enrolled.

MASTER CLASS COURSE TOPICS with a special presentation by View Inc. - see below

  • Key Building Envelope Requirements of the new Energy Conservation code

  • Air Barrier Materials

  • Air Barrier Assemblies

  • Air Barrier Testing

  • Air Leakage of Fenestration

  • Fenestrations

  • Thermal Resistance of Mechanical Equipment Penetrations

  • View Inc presentation - This presentation will start with understanding the appeal of glass in architecture, the current iissues with glass and the associated, limited solutions. Then the course will examine the dynamic glazing option, the benefits and review electrochromic technology in more detail.

  • 3 Minute Virtual Reality Tour

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to understand the impact of dynamic electrochromic glazing on the design of facades, evaluate the benefits of an electrochromic glazing solution, determine when and where electrochromic glazing makes sense and to determine how electrochromic glazing solutions can be implemented in new building construction and retrofit applications.

Smart, or dynamic, glass is turning out to be a key component in the connected building market that some peg at up to $1 trillion. View estimates the smart glass market could be worth an estimated $100 billion worldwide.

A leader in building innovation, View Inc. is the first company to successfully advance the large-scale commercialization of dynamic glass. Situated at the intersection of human wellness, smart connectivity, and energy efficiency, View manufactures View Dynamic Glass, a new generation of architectural glass that intelligently transitions through multiple tint states to control the sun’s  energy, providing an enhanced occupant experience and optimum natural light and thermal comfort. There are over 300 installations of View Dynamic Glass in North America, with another 150 in progress.

Growth is tied to advances of technology and changes in taste. As architects increasingly incorporate glass into the designs of commercial and residential structures, the importance of managing light has magnified. Huge lobbies with windows can heat up or freeze a building's residents, driving up energy costs; smart glass can regulate temperatures and moderate the intensity of light coming in.
