Capital Project Roundtable, NYCs newly adopted $14 billion Plan for High Performance Buildings


The Roundtable the industry demanded. Join the roundtable discussion designed to deliver the business and performance construct for NYCs newest 14 billion dollar plan which will directly impact the real estate industry, energy sourcing and funding. An integral component of the discussion will be the Climate Mobilization Act and the examination the Bank of America Tower, the Empire State Office Building and Hudson Yards. This Act, in order to succeed, must drive unprecedented advances in infrastructure, technology, renewable resources, funding, and collaboration.

Special Presentation: The roundtable will examine the foreseeable effects of the newly minted plan and Climate Mobilization Act, CMA, on buildings similar to the Bank of America Tower and the Empire State Building. We will also delve into the Hudson Yards development as an impact model for CMA components.

One Bryant Park, Bank of America Tower

The Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park was designed to set a new standard in high performance buildings, for both the office workers who occupy the tower and for a city and country who have awakened to the modern imperative of sustainability. The vision at the occupant scale was to create the highest quality modern workplace by emphasizing daylight, fresh air, and an intrinsic connection to the outdoors. The Bank of America Tower is the first commercial high rise in the United States to earn LEED Platinum certification.

Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is a 102 story skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon and completed in 1931. The building has a roof height of 1,250 feet and stands a total of 1,454 feet tall, including its antenna.The building sits on 79,288 square feet, 7,340 square meters, or approximately two acres and contains 2.7 million square feet of office space, making it one of the largest office buildings in the world. The Empire State Office Building recently performed a groundbreaking energy efficiency retrofit which may serve as a leading lesson on the economic benefits of intelligent investment in sustainability.

Hudson Yards

Hudson Yards is a real estate development in the Chelsea and Hudson Yards neighborhoods of Manhattan, New York City. It is the largest private real estate development in the United States by area and one of the biggest projects in New York since Rockefeller Center was completed 80 years ago. When completed, the site will include more than 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space; more than 100 shops; a collection of restaurants; approximately 4,000 residences.

The Climate Mobilization Act: Single largest energy Act by any city in the World

The CMAs suite of bills are structured to enable New York City to meet historic emission reduction goals. The CMA, recently approved by City Council in April directly puts forth a myriad of measures to significantly curb emissions from large and medium sized buildings over 25,000 square feet and requiring a 4 billion dollar outlay from building owners. Importantly, a key financing mechanism is PACE.

Property Assessed Clean Energy Program, PACE, is a means to finance energy efficiency upgrades, disaster resiliency improvements, water conservation measures, or renewable energy installations for residential, commercial, and industrial property owners.
